What is Noctie AI?
Noctie is a personal AI chess coach with a human touch. Instead of calculating to inhuman depths like a normal engine, it relies on intuition learned from over a billion human games — so its strengths, weaknesses and even move timings match a human at your own skill level, from advanced beginner to about 2800. Every move you play is graded on the spot, and your mistakes become puzzles you practice until they stick.
The app runs in the browser and as the Noctie Chess Trainer app on iOS and Android with one synced account. Web plans cost €14/month or €8/month billed yearly, and each starts with a free 7-day trial.
What it does
Built for training, not for crushing you
-
Play a human-like chess AI at your level
Noctie plays like a person from advanced beginner to grandmaster strength: humanlike opening choices, humanlike mistakes and even humanlike move timings — no random engine blunders.
Trained on over a billion human games; strength range up to ~2800 Elo.
-
Instant color feedback on every move
Every move is graded the moment you play it, from Blunder to Excellent, based on how good it looks from a human perspective rather than raw engine evaluation.
7 feedback levels: Excellent, Great, Good, OK, Dubious, Mistake, Blunder.
-
Puzzles from your own mistakes
After each game Noctie turns your most instructive mistakes into flashcards, then schedules them with spaced repetition until the pattern sticks.
Flashcards are generated automatically after every game.
-
Practice openings your way
Pick any common opening and Noctie answers with the lines real people play online — traps included — or import your own repertoire as a PGN and drill it in full games.
Import repertoires from Lichess, Chessbook, Chesstempo or ChessBase as PGN.
How does it work?
Three steps, and the loop repeats every session — that is the whole training method behind Noctie chess.

Instant feedback on every Noctie AI chess move
Each move is graded by how good it looks from a human perspective — not by engine centipawns — on a seven-step scale:
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| Excellent | A great move that's hard to find |
| Great | A strong and non-obvious move |
| Good | One of the best moves in the position |
| OK | A somewhat unambitious move |
| Dubious | An inferior move but not a clear mistake |
| Mistake | A clear mistake or missed opportunity |
| Blunder | A critical mistake harming your chances |
Reasonable moves that fail only to an obscure engine line are not punished; clever, non-obvious moves get credit. How the grading works →
