Import Your Chess.com and Lichess Games into Noctie

You can link your Chess.com or Lichess account name in the Noctie web app and pull in your online games, so the same review and flashcards it builds from games against its own AI are generated from the games you play against people. It is one of the quickest ways to make the app useful on day one: instead of waiting to build a game history inside it, you bring the mistakes you are already making. The integration lives in the web app (app.noctie.ai).

What importing does

  • Each imported game can be reviewed: Noctie goes through your moves with the same human-perspective feedback — graded by how a move looks to a human, not by centipawn loss — and estimates your rating from them.
  • Your most instructive mistakes become flashcards in your queue, scheduled with spaced repetition alongside the cards from your games against the AI.
  • Positions from those games can be set up as sparring positions so you can replay the moment things went wrong against the AI at your level (see sparring positions).

The feature arrived with the link your chess account update (see the changelog), and “Import games from Chess.com / Lichess” is included in every plan.

  1. Sign in to the web app at app.noctie.ai (the integration is in the web version; the mobile apps share the same account).
  2. Open the Progress page and add your Chess.com or Lichess account name — the username only, no password or authorization is needed because public games are read.
  3. Click the synchronize icon to fetch your latest games from that account.
  4. Click Review on a game: Noctie reviews your moves, estimates your rating from them, and adds flashcards from opening mistakes, tactics and missed opportunities to your normal flashcard decks.
  5. Come back after your next online session and synchronize again — the queue grows with your real play.

Want to try it before linking anything? The web app also has a quick way to import and review the last game a given user played — handy for seeing what a review looks like on a famous player’s bullet game.

Making the most of imported games

  • Review the colors first. A run of orange and red in the same phase of the game (say, moves 10–15) tells you where to focus faster than any single blunder.
  • Turn one position into a sparring session. Set up the position before your worst mistake and play it out against Noctie; do it from both sides.
  • Solve the flashcards over days, not minutes. Spaced repetition only works if the reviews are spread out (how flashcards work).
  • Compare styles. If the grades on your online play come out lower than your rating suggests, you are probably winning on time or on opponents’ blunders — the feedback shows which.

Playing with a screen reader or keyboard

The Noctie web app can be played by keyboard and screen reader. There is no separate “blind mode” and nothing to switch on: the normal interface is built to work with a screen reader — every square is a real button, moves can be typed into a labeled input, and a live region announces what happens. The native iOS and Android apps do not support this yet, so use the web app in your phone’s browser if you rely on a screen reader.

Troubleshooting imports

  • Games not appearing? Check that the account name is spelled exactly as on Chess.com / Lichess, that the games are public, and that you clicked synchronize after adding it.
  • Only some games showing? Synchronize fetches your latest games; synchronize again after playing more.
  • Feedback looks harsher than expected? Grading is by human plausibility, and the roadmap lists improved move feedback colors — more accurate, less harshness based on your level as in progress.

Availability

Importing games from Chess.com and Lichess is included in every plan (€14 monthly or €8/month billed yearly) and in the free 7-day trial. One Noctie account works on web, iOS and Android, so flashcards created from imported games are available on all of them.
